Safety is paramount when it comes to anything involving firearms. You have heard the saying, “guns don’t kill people, people do”. Yes, a gun is a tool that, by itself, can’t do anything, however, we must treat them and handle them in the safest way possible, AT ALL TIMES. Here are the four rules of firearm safety. Study them, memorize them and always have them in the front of your mind when handling a firearm:
- Watch that muzzle! Keep it pointed in a safe direction at all times.
- Treat each firearm with the respect due a loaded gun… treat it as if it is loaded, even if you know (or think) otherwise.
- Be sure of the target and what is in front of it and what is behind it.
- Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.
